Your Profession:

About Me:
With more than 30 years of rich experience, I consider myself a top branding expert and a free-spirited maverick having never worked for a boss.

I began my career in the 1970s designing brandmarks (logos) and corporate brand identities to pay for my college tuition. By dealing with upstarts, mom-and-pop businesses and, later, sophisticated national and international brands, I gained invaluable experience and insight covering a broad range of branding, design and advertising challenges.

I run my own strategic brand, design and advertising consultancy. I am passionate about nature and wildlife conservation and one of my pro bono clients is Sea Shepherd Conservation Society of Whale Wars fame.

In September 2009, after six years of research I published my book Face your brand! The visual language of branding explained in electronic format as an eBook. This well-conceived book provides the indispensable facts and logic for creating a successful visual brandmark.

After covering the background and origins of branding, sharing entertaining and enlightening brand tales, exploring the quality and cost of good visual branding, and illustrating how to create a good brandmark, I give you the tools to become a competent visual brander who ensures form follows function and strategy. In a clear, systematic manner, I demonstrate how to build your brandmark through my seven essential elements of successful visual branding.

Face your brand! deals with radical issues such as brand revolution, evolution and maintenance, copyright, ownership and intellectual property, as well as the vital steps towards avoiding the pitfalls in using designers. I give you a unique paradigm to conduct your own brandmark audit, thereby helping you to create a successful visual brand. You can use my audit to pinpoint and understand the flaws of your brandmark.

As a bonus, you can apply this powerful tool to evaluate your competitors’ brandmark strengths and weaknesses, thereby enabling you to take advantage of the positioning or repositioning of your entire brand. Face your brand! is mandatory reading for any entrepreneur, marketer and business leader who detests failure.

Build It and They Will Come

They only way you will have buyers beating a path to your door by "Simply Building It" is to have them come to your door first.

When delivering a product or service to the person making the purchasing decision you must make sure the the product actually meets NEEDs, address Wants and adequately controls their expectations.

This is accomplished by taking time to listen to them before you take the time and effort to "Build it".

Online Brand Management

Social media is hot and businesses are using it to engage customers and ignite viral marketing. The trend makes managing your online identity an essential component to your overall branding strategy. Comments posted to forums, blog posts, profile pages on FaceBook, LinkedIn and even your social bookmarks contribute to how your brand is viewed.

It is worthwhile to give consideration to what you write, text, type, endorse, rate and photograph before hitting the enter key on your keyboard… Continue

Bastardized Brand Virtualization - Online Spin Blog Post

I found today's Online Spin blog post of interest. Trying to recap would not do it justice so I have included the full post below. While many online marketers are enthusiastically telling others to join SL, this post offers a contrary opinion (often my favorite kind of opinion!). I have also heard from some professionals who tried SL and did not find it to be a great business driver. I believe the message here as with all marketing toolContinue
